The Avengers: Endgame trailer has set a new record for being the most-watched trailer ever in its first 24 hours of going live online. Beating its predecessor, Avengers: Infinity War's 230 million views in a day, Avengers: Endgame, which will hit theatres on April 26, had 289 million views. In the last movie, Avengers: Infinity War, we saw Thanos snap half the universe out of existence. Will the remaining Avengers - Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Black Widow and Iron Man undo the damage? Can they?
We don't know much about the plot of this latest one, but it's fun to speculate by joining the dots. Isn't it?
Here are 7 things about the trailer we are sure you've missed:
1. The title Avengers: Endgame connects us to something Doctor Strange said in Avengers: Infinity War
After months of speculation about the fourth Avengers subtitle, fans are now busy speculating what this latest offering has in store for them. You may recall that Doctor Strange used the term 'endgame' in the last MCU film- Avengers: The Infinity War. "We are in the endgame now," he said, referring to the only possible way they could defeat Thanos. Even though we witnessed Doctor Strange evaporate into dust at the end of Infinity War, there's a chance he might play a big part in helping other Avengers to reverse the damage caused by Thanos.
2. We can see Nebula and Iron Man adrift in space on the Guardians of the Galaxy's ship
The Avengers: Endgame trailer begins with Tony Stark adrift in space with no hope of survival. Later in the trailer, we see Nebula joining him on the ship, which is actually the Benatar, the Guardians of the Galaxy's latest ride, which they got the after The Milano, the original ship, was damaged in Guardians 2. The Benatar has been named after Star-Lord's childhood crush, Pat Benatar (isn't that interesting?)
3. Hawkeye is dressed like a ninja and is now Ronin
In the trailer, Natasha, Black Widow, watches Clint Barton, Hawkeye, take out a Japanese yakuza with a katana. Hawkeye was missing in Infinity War and is now dressed like a ninja (strange? right?) Well, in the comic book, Ronin is another name that Barton takes on to show that he is skilled with more than just a bow and arrows. Speculation is rife that he's hell-bent on revenge as Thanos' snap dissolved his family into dust.
4. Thanos scarecrow tells us a lot
Early in the trailer, we witness Thanos take off his armour and put it on a post that looks like a scarecrow. This tells us a couple of things: his work is done after the famous snap, and as in the comic book, he has given up being a warlord and is now a humble (difficult to believe!!) farmer. You may recall, the same scarecrow was placed amidst Thanos' crops on Titan 2 at the end of Infinity Wars.
We also see Thanos run his hand along the crops. It appears that the gauntlet - damaged at the end of Infinity War - is still on his left hand. Why would it still be there unless he is unable to remove it? It's possible that the gauntlet got fused to his hand when it was damaged.
5. Time travel rumours have just been confirmed
There have been rumours that the cast of Avengers: Endgame has been filmed on sets that resemble the earlier movies (for example, the Battle of New York, a scene from the very first Avengers film). A part of the trailer suggests time travel as we see Captain America opening his compass with a picture of Peggy Carter in it. He is also seen wearing his old uniform from The Winter Soldier. This, surely, suggests that either he has time-travelled to the past or is planning to.
6. Our favourite character may not be there in Avengers: Endgame
We instantly fell in love with T'Challa's sister and Wakanda's chief scientist, Shuri from Black Panther and Infinity War. We didn't see her turning into dust at the end of Infinity War and hoped that she'd be around in Avengers: Endgame. However, the trailer suggests she is missing and her picture is right there on the 'missing persons of interest' gallery at the Avengers headquarters along with Peter Parker and Scott Lang (we know you are sad!).
7. Last but not least, Ant-Man's appearance hints at Thanos being defeated at the hands of the Avengers
Hold your breath, this might be the biggest revelation in the trailer: Ant-Man (Scott Lang) knocking on the door of the Avengers' headquarters. That's not all. What is more important than his visit is his ride and what is inside it. Well, it's a portable way to reach the Quantum Realm which is supposed to be playing a major role in how the Avengers will destroy Thanos. At 3 hours 2 minutes, Avengers: Endgame, will be the longest Marvel movie in the studio's history.
