First watch worn on the moon
As 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the historical moon landing, it comes as no surprise that Omega commemorates this momentous occasion with the launch of the Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. Modelled after the Speedmaster (BA145.022) that was gifted by Omega to the astronauts four months after the Apollo 11 mission at the “Astronauts Appreciation Dinner”, the 2019 edition discovers a piece of Speedmaster history and brings it to the forefront for everyone to see. The 1929 Speedmaster (BA145.022 ) featured an 18k gold case with a rare burgundy bezel and an inscription on the caseback. It was a limited edition timepiece with just 1,014 models available that were produced between 1969 and 1973 and had since remained one of the most sought after timepiece by collectors and space enthusiasts alike.
Like the original, the 2019 version is a chronograph crafted from 18k “moonshine” (Omega's proprietary yellow gold alloy) gold case and bracelet that features a burgundy bezel in ceramic with brushed gold dial and onyx indexes. Keeping in tune with the 1929 version, the commemorative timepiece is also made in a series of 1,014 pieces and houses a powerful manual winding Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 (861 in the original). Additionally, the inscription on the back reads: Apollo 11 — 50th Anniversary — 1969-2019 The First Watch Worn On The Moon. While the new iteration features some nifty updates (read: moonshine gold, ceramic bezel and a new inscription on the caseback), the basic design aesthetic stays true to the original which makes the 2019 version instantly more appealing.
The watch is available in stores from July 2019 and is priced at approximately Rs 22.30 lakh.
Breitling celebrates 100 years of Bentley with a new watch
When Britain’s Bentley Motors chose Breitling to design the on-board clock for their first Continental GT back in 2003, little did people know that it was the beginning of the most revered and long-standing partnership between a watch brand and an automobile manufacturer. At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, Breitling announced the release of the Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition that commemorates 100 years of luxury motoring excellence. Georges Kern, CEO, Breitling says, “Bentley and Breitling are known for quality, performance, and design excellence, and both are built on powerful legacies. The Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is a celebration of Bentley’s history, its luxury, and its incredible racing pedigree, as well as its important, intimate connection to Breitling.”
Crafted from 18k red gold and a stainless steel version, the Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition features an elegant brown elm burl dial contrasted by black sub-dials and a white tachymeter scale with red inscriptions.
Powered by Breitling's flagship manufacture calibre 01, the powerhouse movement offers an impressive 70-hour power reserve. The transparent caseback houses a Bentley logo. Along with it, the 18k red gold version features a “ONE OF 200” inscription while the stainless steel version has the “ONE OF 100” inscribed on the caseback. Strapped to a brown leather strap (for the gold versions) and brown Bentley-inspired leather strap and bracelet version (for the stainless steel version), this watch is a stunner. Another interesting feature is the “Bentley” inscription on the left side of the stainless steel case which is based on the dashboard of the historic supercharged 1929 “Blower” Bentley. The Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is a must-have in every car and watch lover's collection.
