At a time when the term millennial has become commonplace, we’ve almost forgotten Generation Y (or simply Gen Y), the term that was used to refer to folks born in the 1980s and the 1990s. Yves Saint Laurent puts Gen Y back in the spotlight; the brand has dedicated its new men’s scent to Gen Y. The scent seeks inspiration from the classic YSL white T-shirt and black jacket. There’s no evidence of this in the packaging, but it’s the fragrance notes that stay true to the white tee and jacket.

The bottle, designed by internationally renowned designer Suzanne Dalton, is crystal clear and sliced by a metal ‘Y’. This simplicity complements the uncomplicated fragrance that begins on a crisp note with bergamot and ginger. It runs parallel with the crisp white YSL tee. Geranium, sage and violet leaf make up the heart of the fragrance while the base includes notes like incense, cedar and musk.

Y Men is a welcome departure from some of YSL’s men’s scents of the 2010s, many of which were flankers to the brand’s successful L’Homme. This scent is fronted by a whole bunch of Gen Y achievers that include hip-hop musician Loyle Carner and artificial intelligence expert Alexander Robicquet. We dig the refreshing vibe of this scent; it’s easy to wear—almost like that YSL white tee and black jacket. Staying power is average though. This is just the kind of scent that can elevate your mood on a hot summer’s day and calm those nerves after a frenetic week in the office.

YSL Y Men costs ₹6,800/100ml and is available at leading department stores across India

Cuir Vetiver by Yves Rocher

Bleu Noir by Narciso Rodriguez that debuted a couple of years ago was one of the brand’s most distinctive scents. Cuir Vetiver will remind you of Bleu Noir. It’s crafted by the same perfumer, Sonia Constant, and is dominated by Vetiver, one of the most trendy perfume notes for men’s scents. The mock-wood, light oak cap reflects the scent’s strong woody notes that include sandal and leather. This is an intense scent and yet not overpowering; it works equally well for a dinner date and a day in the office. (₹2,200/100 ml)

Mont Blanc Lady Emblem L’Eau

The pastel green juice was inspired by a summer garden. It’s why this is a fruity floral scent. The showstopper bottle symbolises a Mont Blanc diamond with 43 facets. The fragrance begins on a fruity note, with litchi and peach dominating the top notes. The floral heart features rose and magnolia; the scent finishes on an intense note with cedar and musk. (₹5,700/75ml)
