How have personal storage solutions evolved today?
In today’s digital age, smartphones and inter-connected devices have become a necessity, and storage is central to these. Earlier, when we ran out of internal storage on our devices, we used to embed a microSD card for expandable storage. Today, innovative technologies have led to the prevalence of exceptional storage solutions. From speed, reliability, portability to capacity, personal storage has come a long way. SanDisk’s Dual Drive portfolio is one such example that packs up to 1TB of storage in a flash drive and allows you to connect a host of devices, be it Apple products, or devices with Type-C, or even the MicroUSB ports. When we look at SSDs, where we have one of the most comprehensible portfolios with a range available from SanDisk, WD, and WD_BLACK brands, these have evolved at a rapid pace. Today you have lightning fast NVMe SSDs, such as our SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD, with up to 2000MB/s read/write speeds. When you look at hard drives, a small drive that fits into your palm offers up to 5TB of storage, for example, our WD My Passport HDD. And there is many more such innovative product portfolio across our brands.
With cloud storage becoming paid, do you believe consumers will look at physical storage as an alternative?
Absolutely; we just discussed how the personal storage space has evolved. Physical storage is not only an alternative, but it also complements your cloud storage. For example, with the transition to remote workplaces and online learning, there is a strong surge in demand for storage devices among the users, as they do not want to miss out in a case, they face a bad network. With today's modern solutions that offer exceptionally fast read and write rates, data security, reliability, easy connectivity, and massive capacities, data storage, and backup have never been easier.
What products from Western Digital brands would you recommend for people who are looking for an alternative to the paid cloud?
We are continuing to work with our channel ecosystem to help the end-users decide the best-suited products as an alternative to cloud storage. Here are some of the products they may consider:
SanDisk Dual Drives: where one can look at a type C drive, the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe (storage up to 1TB), which has USB Type-A on one end and Type C on the other, so you easily store or transfer content on compatible devices. Or if you have an iPhone, our SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive Luxe allows you to transfer content between iPhone and USB Type-CTM devices, including AndroidTM phones.
SanDisk Extreme and Extreme PRO® Portable SSD V2: These ultra-fast SSDs offer universal compatibility, which means they work with your Type-C smartphone, PC and Mac computers, and tablets. Just plug it in and transfer, store or watch content on any compatible screen.
WD My CloudTM Home: It is an easy-to-use personal cloud storage device that plugs directly into your Wi-Fi® router at home so you can save all your digital content in one central place. Unlike a NAS, it's a simple centralized solution to back up your photos, videos, and files, and have it stored in one place. With the My Cloud Home app, you can access, upload, and share your content from anywhere with an internet connection.
And actually, the list goes on.
